Adama Traoré, born in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat and of Malian origin, made his first team debut last Saturday. He came on against Granada, and even came close to scoring. Three days later, Tata Martino once revealed his faith in the young player by awarding him his Champions League debut. Adama has impressed all through the ranks at La Masia, and has frequently being playing in higher age groups than he would have normally been placed in. After two seasons in the U18 first team, this is his first year in Eusebio Sacristán’s Barça B squad.

Aleví D
Pau Servat is a young Aleví D player who was brokenhearted after missing a first half penalty, but who saw how the support of his team mates brought about a happy end to the story

Barça's academy teams continue to serve up some great stories. The latest involves Pau Servat, a 10-year-old with the Club's Aleví D team. The youngster really suffered when he missed a penalty just before the break and he needed all the support of his teammates and coach. Then in the final minutes of the game, he discovered just what a topsy turvey game football can be as he ended teh game on a high - another lesson in footballing values for the Barça youngsters.

The FC Barcelona technical director of youth football says that the youth policy “is what has given us, and will give us, success” “When you’re part of the youth squads, the first team seems far away, but it’s not impossible”

The youth teams of FC Barcelona go from success to success.  The aim is to educate young players as people and footballers so that they can reach the first team, as Adama, Dongou and Patric have done this year.  According to Guillermo Amor: “Youth football, as we have been managing it in recent years, must carry on in the same line, methodology, style and philosophy”.  “We have to maintain this because it’s what has given us, and will give us, success”.

Speaking in an interview with the Barça TV programme ‘Promeses’, Amor insisted: “What we must never lose is our style; the essence.  That mustn’t be lost, no matter who is in the first team”.

The former Barça star stressed the need to look for local talent. “We should always look for local players.  The best players can be found here.  When you give local people the chance, they respond and defend their team to the end”.

This season, youth stars Adama, Dongou and Patric have all made their senior competitive debuts.  Speaking about Adama, Amor revealed: “He’s a very modest lad and understands that it doesn’t all stop here.  One thing is to make your debut, but what you can do in the future is something else”.  “It’s really hard to keep your place and when you’re in the lower levels, it seems far away and difficult.  But they have to believe it’s not impossible”.

Amor is “absolutely delighted” with his job within the youth football set-up because “I am in the Club of my heart”.

Quique Álvarez's team win thanks to goals from Aleñà (2), Dani Morer and Lee Barça's next match is tomorrow at 5:40 PM CET against Kashiwa Reysol. The match will be streamed live on the Club's website

FC Barcelona’s Cadete A team managed by Quique Álvarez kicked off their bid for the prestigious Al Kass International Cup in Doha, Qatar, this Monday. The Blaugrana participated in the first edition of the tournament and they finished fifth, but they didn’t participate in the second edition.

This prestigious international tournament features teams like PSG, Real Madrid, Milan and Manchester United. The champions of the first edition were PSG, while in 2013 Fluminense won the trophy.

Barça in Group A

FC Barcelona are in Group A along with PSG and Kashiwa Reysol. The first match, which was played this Monday at 2:15 PM ended in a hard-fought victory for the Blaugrana. Álvarez’s team defeated the always difficult and former champions PSG. After the opening goal from the French team, two goals from Carlos Aleñá, Barça’s captain and man of the match, put Barça in front before Edouard, who scored all three goals for the Parisian team, brought PSG level. After the break, Morer and Lee fired Barça ahead, but PSG hit back with another goal from Edouard. The final score was 3-4.

Fightback in 30 minutes

On 12 minutes PSG took the lead thanks to a quick counterattack led by Edouard. Three minutes later, however, Carlos Aleñá brought Barça level after a great play from Jang on the right wing.

A couple minutes later, at the half-hour mark, Aleñá received the ball in the area thanks to an excellent pass from Morer; Aleñá beat his mark and put Barça ahead thanks a great shot to the far post. Before the break, Edouard brought PSG level after a give-and-go play at the top of Barça’s area.

Morer and Lee give Barça the win

After the break Barça continued to control the game, but PSG proved dangerous on the counter. Javi Romero’s fantastic performance in goal surely kept more than one goal off the board. On 49 minutes, after a great collective play between Morer and Lee, Barça were up again. Minutes later, Olmo and Oriol Rey were subbed in, and Olmo assisted Lee for Barça’s fourth.

PSG kept on trying, and a bad clearance from Barça defence allowed Edouard to score the definitive 3-4. After the game, Carles Aleñá was named man of the match.

Barça will take on Kashiwa Reysol on Tuesday at 5:40 PM CET. The match will be streamed live on the Club’s website.

Goals from Lee and Olmo allowed Barça to draw with the Japanese team Barça are through to the quarter-finals of the Al Kass International Cup

The Cadete A team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Al Kass International Cup after drawing with Kashiwa Reysol (2-2). The Blaugrana had to fight back from a two-goal deficit after the Japanese team took the lead in the first half. Quique Álvarez’s team reacted in the second half and they managed to draw level thanks to goals from Lee and Olmo (min 64 and 66).

Barça will have to wait for the result from the match between PSG and Kashiwa on Wednesday to know whether or not they win the group. Barça’s rival will come out of Group C, which is composed of Auxerre, AC Milan and Fluminense.

Surprised by the Japanese team

Kashiwa Reysol were very intense at the start of the match and they took Quique Álvarez’s team by surprise with their one-touch possession style of play. The Blaugrana created more chances but the Japanese were more effective.

Nakamura (min 25) scored the first goal after a good personal play in the area. Barça tried to fight back and Dani Morer came very close but his shot was saved by the keeper Sobeya (min 31).

With two minutes to go before the break, a great collective play from Kashiwa doubled their lead over the Blaugrana, Otani scored the goal.

Barça fight back

The Cadete A team doubled down in the second half. Lee brought Barça within one goal after a fantastic personal play on 64 minutes, and two minutes later, a magnificent pass from Aleñá allowed Olmo to score the equaliser.

Both teams tried to take the win, and they both had chances but neither side managed to score the match winning goal.

Goals from Dos Santos and Franco towards the end of the second half condemned a Cadet A team who failed to take their own chances

Defeat and goodbye to the Al Kass International Cup.  The Barça Cadet A squad dominated the whole match but fell to two sucker punches in a nightmare five-minute spell.

Barça dominate

Barça controlled the game from the kick-off as the players coached by Quique Álvarez lay siege to the Fluminense goal.  Carles Pérez and Julio César in particular both had their chances but Barça failed to convert their dominance into goals.  Fluminense tried to stem the flow of attacks with some tough tackling.

Much of the same

The story was the same after the break, the first chance of the half falling to Olmo, whose effort went just wide.  Meanwhile, the Brazilian keeper continued to shine but he was finally beaten by Lee only for the goal to be controversially disallowed for offside.

A cruel blow

Just as Barça seemed to be most on top, Fluminense punished them for their lack of sharpness in front of goal. In the space of five minutes, Dos Santos and Franco made it 0-2.

To their credit, Barça didn’t throw in the towel but finally had to say goodbye to the tournament.
